Contemporanea celebrates the 25th Anniversary

 

CONTEMPORÁNEA
Contemporanea was founded in 1996 as an organization which promotes art through activities and cultural programs worldwide. Living the present, the goal is to be an active agent of our History through committed projects. Art, Music, Literature, Performance... Culture and lifestyles in which Contemporanea believes. Dumia Medina is the CEO of the Company.

CONTEMPORÁNEA CENTRO DE ARTE
Based in Granada, Contemporanea opens its Art Center in October 1996 wth the aim of creating new systems in production and exhibition of art with a focus on new disciplines and new scenes in Contemporary Art. Contemporanea Centro de Arte art space gets bigger with 240 square meters in two levels and two differents exhibitions at the same time and other activities such as concerts, performances, conferences, screenings... After closing the gallery in 2003, Contemporanea starts to curate and produce exhibitions for other institutions. Its presence on the internet began in 1998, and the definitive take off was in 2009.

2003 - TODAY
'Apocalypse. Keith Haring & Williams Burroughs', produced in December 2003, was the first exhibition curated by Contemporanea. Since then, more than a hundred curating works and exhibitions have been made in Spain and worldwide. Exhibitions such as 'Seguir vivo. Michel Houellebecq y Masbedo'; 'Warhol & The Factory'; 'USA Today'; 'Gráfika. A Collections of Prints by the Artists of Beautiful Losers'; 'Lydia Lunch. A Retrospective'; 'Gráfika. 30 Artistas de la Espańa Joven', 'Lee Miller Surrealist', 'Duffy. Retrospective', 'Ryan McGinley. Yearbook', 'Richard Kern. Naked and famous', 'Frida Kahlo. Photographs of Leo Matiz at La Casa Azul', 'Shadi Ghadirian. Like Every Day', 'Steve Shapiro. Retrospective', 'Nadia Lee Cohen. Not a Retrospective', 'Juanjo Guarnido. Blacksad', 'Nirvana. 20 Years', 'From Sex To Punk', 'John Lennon & Yoko Ono: Suite 1742', etc.

TOGETHER WITH RECOGNIZED ARTISTS
As editor it has also produced books (Lydia Lunch, Michel Houellebecq, William S. Burroughs...) and limited edition prints and objects since 1996. Very well-known artists such as Esther Ferrer, Richard Kern, C215, Miss Van, Víctor Castillo, Lydia Lunch, Tim Biskup, Cristina Ohlmer, René Peña, Catalina Estrada, Mike Swaney, Jim Houser, Boris Hoppek and Joan Brossa, among others has been edited by Contemporanea.

A PROJECT WITH AN INTERNATIONAL VOCATION
Contemporanea developes exhibitions, editions and activities worlwide with the aim of promoting all the disciplines of Contemporary Art. Contemporanea supports art production on the basis of proximity with the artists and in its aim of creating new systems in production and exhibition of art. Spanish and International artists collaborate with Contemporanea in its projects.

PUBLIC & PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS, MUSEUMS, ART CENTERS, UNIVERSITIES, COMPANIES, FESTIVALS AND EVENTS CONTEMPORANEA HAS COLLABORATED WITH
Contemporanea has organized and collaborated with institutions and organizations such as Cervantes Institute, CCCB (Barcelona), La Casa Encendida (Madrid), Es Baluard (Majorca), MUSAC (Leon), Espai d'Art Contemporani (Castellon), La Termica (Malaga), Niemeyer Center (Aviles), Fundación Telefónica (Madrid),Jose Saramago Foundation, Fundació Joan Brossa, Fundacion de Cultura de Valladolid and Zaragoza Cultural, among others.
